Vishakha Glass, in collaboration with India’s prominent player in integrated glass manufacturing–Asahi India Glass Ltd. (AIS) is set to launch its next-generation and India’s largest greenfield solar glass manufacturing facility at Mundra, Gujrat. In phase 1, the plant will have a capacity of 4 GW.

The Government of India is serious about renewable energy initiatives and it reflects in its latest decision to impose a 40% solar panel import tax in April 2022. However, the current production capacities in India are not at the self-sufficient level and therefore, the government is reconsidering lowering the taxes by 20% as of May 2023. This explains why indigenous manufacturing is critical.
Vishakha Group’s decision to join Asahi for creating India’s largest solar PV glass manufacturing plant will decrease the need for imports in future and will strengthen India’s solar capacities.
